With an amazing turnout of 152 women the ladies thursday league had their final day on Sunday Aug. 23rd. League winners for 2009 consisted of Pam Dassylvia, Tammy Harper, Darlene Dale ,Jane Mielke & Connie McLean. Mixed League Champions This years champions with a total of 48.5 points were Val & Mike McMurray, runner up with 40.5 points were Bill & Gloria Hewson.Ontario-Quebec Matches Team Ontario Junior Boys and Girls dominated day two to capture the 2009 Ontario vs. Quebec Matches at Barcovan Golf Club by 13 points. Team Ontario built a 3-point lead after Monday’s first round Four-Ball Matches. Highlights included a chip in on the 18th hole by Lucus Kim (to square up the match he was contesting alongside partner and Kitchener native Chris Hemmerich). The 18th hole also featured a 40 foot putt by Elizabeth Tong of Thornhill which secured a full point for herself and partner Katlyn Elliott of Peterborough and gave the Ontario team the lead heading into the second day of matches. After two excellent days of golf and good sportsmanship, the Ontario squad of Kim, Hemmerich, Tong, Elliott, LeMay, Hernandez, Alyssa Getty of Leamington, Austin James of Bath, Stephanie Tucker of Orangeville, Jenna Hague of Burlington, Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Un Cho of Ancaster and non-playing captain Mary Ann Lapointe were presented with the Championship trophy.Grand Am Slam! Remember Jennifer Kirby who shot the course record of 64 here during the Ontario Jr. Girls Championship? Well, she just accomplished the Grand Am Slam which is winning the Ontario Jr. Girls Championship, Canadian Jr. Girls Championship ,Ontario Womens Championship, Canadian Women's Championship & The Toronto Star Championship. This has not been accomplished since 1930. Jennifer is off to the University of Alabama but will be coming home to compete in the LPGA Canadian Open in September in Calgary. I hope everyone had the chance to come out and watch these girls cause these girls sure can play! |
